Funerals with Worksop Priory Church

The death of a loved one is a distressing and bewildering time. One might feel a complex array of emotions and the process of organising the funeral is one more concern. Together with the funeral director, the priest and church will guide you through the funeral service and support you in the days and years to come.

What should I do if I want to arrange a funeral at Worksop Priory Church?
Contact a funeral director in the first instance

Ask for them to contact the Priory and arrange for a priest
The funeral director will contact the Priory Administrator and arrange for the church and priest to be available

What should I do if I want to go straight to the Crematorium, or a green burial site, but would like a hymn and a prayer?

Contact a funeral director in the first instance

Ask them to contact the Priory to arrange for a priest

What happens next?

The priest will call you to arrange a visit where he will be concerned for your grief and listen to your needs

The priest will discuss your requirements in the funeral service: suitable hymns, readings, music, flowers, orders of service and any other requests you may have
The priest will discuss with you the content of a tribute to your loved one within the service.

On the day of the funeral, the priest will meet you at the church and conduct the service with reverence in accordance with your wishes and the discussion which took place at the visit.
Following the funeral, the priest will be glad to keep in touch and visit you according to your needs.

Frequently asked questions…
Is there a fee? Yes, the funeral director will discuss this with you and pay the priest and organist directly.
I would like a particular poem read, is this alright? Yes. Do discuss your wishes with the priest.
Can I play CDs in the church? Unfortunately it is not possible to play requests on CDs.  Our organists are well used to playing all sorts of music.  If it “works” on the organ, they will play if for you.
Is it possible for me to speak about my loved one in the service? Yes, please discuss this with the priest when he visits you.

Does the same priest attend the crematorium or burial? Yes, and the priest will conduct a short committal service.
